BBC acquires Aussie horror-comedy Crazy Fun Park

July 13 2023

The Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) is bringing the live-action series Crazy Fun Park (pictured) to the UK.

The Beeb has picked up the 10 x 30-minute series—starring a teen boy who meets the ghost of his best friend at an abandoned theme park—to launch on its VOD BBC iPlayer this fall. Crazy Fun Park debuted in January 2023 on the Australian broadcaster’s ABC ME linear channel and ABC iview digital platform. The series scored a Logie Award nomination in Australia last month for Most Outstanding Children’s Program.

Melbourne-based Werner Film Productions produces the horror-comedy, and ACTF is its global distributor.

The show was a hit with tween and teen viewers, thanks to its compelling depiction of grief and male friendship, ABC head of children’s Libbie Doherty told Kidscreen earlier this year.

According to a release, yet-to-be-named broadcasters in Spain, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, Belgium, Slovenia, Taiwan and New Zealand have also acquired the series. And the ACTF is working on finalizing more global sales.
